Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. Psalm 37:34
Hudson Taylor was a 19th century British physician and missionary who took the Gospel to the nation of China at a dangerous time in history.
What God asked of him and the enormous God-sized success that he achieved required such incredible sacrifice, humility, perseverance and prayer…that it seemed he possessed supernatural powers!
It is almost impossible to conceive how he sustained his faith during repeated bouts of poverty, loss, and personal tragedy. Both the continued legacy of his ministry and his undying love for God seem beyond the reach of the average Christian.
The only explanation for Hudson Taylor’s exceptional life is the exceptional prayer life that he possessed.
The record of Taylor’s mission work is not just sprinkled with prayer; his successful achievements were documented by prayer. His prayer life was the…
*source of his endless passion for the lost,
*power behind incredible miracles,
*available strength to sustain his waiting upon God,
*balm to comfort the loss of a child and spouse to illness, and the
*secret to his clear vision.
If there is any lesson that the average Christian might learn from Hudson Taylor is that the prayer life of a man or woman holds the key to their success or failure for God.
Without a prayer life, you simply cannot travel steadily down a long road that will deliver risk or pain without hearing God’s voice, knowing His presence, or being sustained by His Holy Spirit. Without prayer, you will lose hope. But when you remain in constant communication with God, you will break through impossible barriers.

Stay on fire!
In the 20th century, among many heroes of faith, there was one who impacted millions by making these verses, often called the “Great Commission,” his rally cry. He gave his entire life to the work of evangelism and discipleship. He traveled the world to inspire, lead and equip people of all ages and nationalities to become disciples of the living, loving God. By the time he died, shortly after the turn of the 21st century, over 50 million people had given their lives to Christ through the organization Dr. Bill Bright founded in the early 1950’s—Campus Crusade for Christ!
How did one man impact so many lives for the Lord Jesus Christ?
It began with the Fellowship of the Burning Heart. Bill’s commitment and conviction to worldwide evangelism can be traced to a simple document that he signed along with three others in a cabin after a passionate night of prayer in a southern California campground in 1947. They committed themselves to four “Christian principles of Discipleship” that included (1) one hour in prayer and the Word, (2) sobriety, (3) fidelity/chastity, and (4) “to seek every possible opportunity to witness, to the end that I may be responsible for bringing at least one to Christ every 12 months.”
The Fellowship—Bill Bright, Henrietta Mears, Richard Halverson, and Louis Evans—charged themselves with a life-long responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission. And each of them left lasting legacies with their lives through decades of effective ministry…
It only takes a spark to get a fire going…
